Dr. Jonas Nguh
Distinguished Educator Award
Jonas Nguh, PhD, MSN, MHSA, FACHE, NEA-BC, RN.
Dr. Nguh is a global health scholar and practitioner. His scope of practice is in health systems strengthening in Sub-Saharan Africa focusing on maternal newborn and child health programs, immunization, family planning and reproductive health, nutrition, water/sanitation/hygiene, malaria, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and pediatric HIV care and treatment in Sub-Saharan countries and low resource countries.
Dr. Nguh is the current President of the Maryland Public Health Association an organization of that serves 7,000+ public health professionals. He also serves as the current Policy Chair of the Men’s Health Caucus of the American Public Health Association with responsibility for policy development and advocacy for the health of men and boys. Prior to this role, he was the Executive Dean of the School of Health Professions at the University of Providence with oversight of 14 different health profession programs from undergraduate to doctoral level.
Dr. Nguh has taught and worked in more than 20 countries including; Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rwanda, Senegal, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Yemen and Zambia. Dr. Nguh is a distinguished faculty with professorships in six international universities. He teaches primarily in Public Health and Nursing programs where he chairs doctoral and masters prepared students.
Dr. Nguh holds a PhD in Public Health, a Master of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He also holds several certifications including Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executive, the National Academy of Practice, and board certified as a Nurse Executive, Advanced by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and he is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
