Mariatu Kabba
Transformational Student Award
Mariatu Kabba is a proven leader who is passionate about creating supportive communities and sustainable societies. She holds a B.A. in Mass Communication from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Global Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona State University. For her outstanding leadership and commitment to empowering underserved communities, she has been recognized as one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Sierra Leone.
Kabba was selected for the prestigious Hubert Humphrey Fellowship for Journalism and Communication at Arizona State University, where she achieved a GPA of 3.75/4.00. During her Humphrey fellowship, she volunteered to serve various community service initiatives in Arizona, such as the Welcome to America Project, Andre House, Chicanos Por La Causa, and Fresh Start Women’s Foundation. She was also awarded the Outstanding Achiever Award from ASU for her significant contributions to communicating the story of the Humphrey Fellowship. Additionally, she is a 2021 recipient of the Mandela Washington Fellowship from Rutgers University, USA. These fellowships have equipped her with the skills and knowledge to drive positive change and make a lasting impact in her community.
Mariatu has established herself as an initiator and CEO of StudyGoal Website Startup, which is dedicated to assisting African students in accessing global educational opportunities and financial support. Additionally, she founded the nonprofit women and girls’ empowerment initiative, Hope Pathways, servicing over 2000 young women and girls across Sierra Leone. In her role as a Journalism Mentor at BBC Media Action, Sierra Leone, she empowered over 200 local journalists with improved skills. Her professional affiliations include an internship at the US Commission on Civil Rights, Washington DC, where she created a Congressional Affairs Communications Outreach Strategy. Her commitment to empowering women and girls and her remarkable achievements make her a truly influential leader in her community and beyond.
